About me
Hello! My name is Emi, and I am a Japanese artist based in Melbourne, Australia. My first years in Melbourne I performed and taught hip hop dance which I love, but in the past few years I have rediscovered my passion for visual art . My style is a unique combination of Japanese – Australian motifs, femininity, Shinto styled referencing of nature. I balance my art with motherhood, and have been creating pieces for print and fine art applications.
About my illustration
My work is a celebration of the female body, of nature, and of life in all its colour.
I have appreciated the beauty of life journeying countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and the South Pacific. Each image I create is inspired by my childhood memories living in countryside Japan, a person or a scene I have encountered, and by dreams of the past, present and future. I am passionate about embracing our differences and being inclusive. In some of my pictures I like to mix elements from different cultures while appreciating the beauty and uniqueness of each culture. I want us to feel it’s normal to mix and co exist with all our differences. I hope my images will be a reminder to appreciate life in the moment, to dream of everything your time on this earth can offer you, and to have the courage to be you.
